Digital marketing in Lebanon comes down to three local facts: almost everyone is online, prices live in US dollars, and many sales close in cash or in a WhatsApp chat rather than at a card checkout. Here is what that means for your ads, payments and tracking in 2026.
The short version
- Reach isn’t the problem. Facebook ads reach 3.45 million people in Lebanon, YouTube 3.12 million, Instagram 2.95 million.
- Price in dollars, plan for cash. Stripe and Shopify Payments don’t support Lebanon; local gateways and Whish do.
- WhatsApp is the real checkout. Run click-to-WhatsApp ads and report chat sales back to Meta.
- Social creates demand, Search captures it. Google handles 95.7% of searches in Lebanon.
- Budget from your margins, not from someone else’s CPM.

Media buyer’s read
Meta is still the default starting point. Facebook’s adult audience skews male (56.5%), Snapchat’s skews female (58.7%), and LinkedIn’s 1.40 million members make B2B targeting realistic. More in our guide to social media marketing in Lebanon.
Prices live in dollars, sales in cash
45.7%
of GDP: the size of Lebanon’s dollarized cash economy in 2022, about US$9.9 billion, according to the World Bank.
Since the banking crisis that began in 2019, cash dollars run the economy. In March 2023 the Ministry of Economy let shops price goods in US dollars as a temporary measure, while customers can still pay in lira at the till. What that means for you:
- Quote prices in US dollars in ads, on your site and in the first WhatsApp reply, delivery included. “DM for price” mostly buys you extra conversations.
- Keep the ad account in USD so spend and revenue share a currency when you calculate ROAS.
- Assume part of your audience only pays cash. A funnel that ends at a card form will leak.
How Lebanese customers pay
Online orders are often paid cash on delivery or with “fresh dollar” cards, and cash on delivery stays popular because of trust, says the US government’s 2026 country commercial guide. Here is what we checked in October 2026:
The default
Cash on delivery
Still how many shoppers prefer to pay. Confirm each order on WhatsApp before dispatch to cut refusals.
Available
Cards via a local gateway
Options include Bank of Beirut’s gateway (March 2024) and the MontyPay Shopify app (August 2025). Ask about settlement currency, fees and paperwork.
On Shopify
Whish Money
The Whish Pay app has been on the Shopify App Store since March 27, 2025. Whish says it has 1M+ customers and a Central Bank of Lebanon license.
In-store only
OMT Pay
A wallet you top up in LBP or USD, with QR payments in shops. We found no plug-in checkout for online stores.
Our take: cash on delivery plus one wallet now, cards once a gateway is live.

WhatsApp is where sales close
84%
of Lebanese adults used WhatsApp in Pew’s fall 2018 survey, and 98% of 18-to-29-year-olds: more than Facebook or Instagram. A proposed WhatsApp tax helped spark the 2019 protests.
So build the funnel around the chat:
The ad opens a chat
Facebook and Instagram ads can open WhatsApp directly. WhatsApp recommends running them for at least seven days.
The chat closes the sale
Reply with the dollar price, delivery included, and confirm the order before it ships.
The sale goes back to Meta
The Conversions API for Business Messaging reports chat purchases, so ads optimize for buyers, not conversations.
Heads up
The WhatsApp Business Platform charges per message, and Meta has changed which messages are billable more than once since 2025. Check its pricing page before you budget. Our social media guide covers DM selling in detail.
Language and the diaspora
Four languages in one feed
ArabicEnglishFrenchArabizi
Arabic is the official language (Constitution, Article 11), yet Lebanese ads run in all four. Arabizi, Arabic in Latin letters, is common enough that researchers study it.
Do this Run your best ad in two or three languages in one ad set, let cost per sale pick the winner, then match the landing page and WhatsApp reply.
A market abroad
$6.7B
in remittances to Lebanon in 2023, a third of GDP (World Bank).
Do this For gifts, groceries or services, target the countries your orders already come from, write for someone ordering for family back home, and offer cards.
Which channel does what
Start with Meta, add Search once your ads make people curious, and keep email for repeat buyers. The rest depends on what you sell.

Track the sales that happen off-site
When the sale happens in a chat or on the doorstep, default tracking misses most of your revenue. Set this up before you spend a dollar:
- Pixel plus Conversions API With the Pixel installed, add the Conversions API for website events from Events Manager, no code needed. Server events don’t depend on the visitor’s browser.
- Track every WhatsApp tap Fire Meta’s “Contact” standard event and a GA4 event when someone taps a WhatsApp button on your site.
- Tag every link Add utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign to links in ads, bios and emails. Skip one and GA4 reports it as “(not set)”.
- Send offline sales back Keep an order log with phone numbers and status. Upload delivered orders to Meta through the Conversions API (the old Offline Conversions API is legacy) and to Google Ads with offline conversion imports.
Rule of thumb: count delivered orders, not placed ones. A refused cash-on-delivery order is a cost, not a sale.
How to budget a first test
We won’t quote “average CPMs in Lebanon”: we found no reliable public benchmark, and costs swing by category, season and creative. Budget from your margins instead. Example: a $45 product that costs $18 to make and $4 to deliver.

- Too much? Move up the funnel Optimize for a cheaper, more frequent event (WhatsApp conversations, add-to-carts) and judge the test on cost per delivered order.
- Give it two to three weeks Change one thing at a time, then move budget from what sits above breakeven to what sits below it.

FAQ
Is digital marketing worth it in Lebanon right now?
Yes, if your unit economics work. With 91.8% of the population online and Facebook alone reaching 3.45 million people, audience is rarely the constraint. Margins, delivery and payment friction are, which is why breakeven CPA math comes first.
What is the biggest social media platform in Lebanon?
TikTok reports the largest ad audience (4.58 million adults), but that exceeds the adult population, so treat it as inflated. Facebook reaches 3.45 million and Instagram 2.95 million. WhatsApp was the most used platform in Pew’s 2018 survey (84% of adults).
Can a Lebanese business accept online payments?
Yes, with some assembly. Stripe and Shopify Payments don’t support Lebanon, so stores combine cash on delivery, a wallet such as Whish Pay, and cards through a local gateway. Selling to the diaspora makes cards more important.
How much should I spend on ads in Lebanon?
Work it out from your margins: breakeven CPA times roughly 50 optimization events per ad set per week, Meta’s learning-phase guidance. If that is too expensive, optimize for a cheaper event such as WhatsApp conversations and track sales in your order log.
